Saw Kathryn Williams tonight at the slightly eccentric venue of Huntingdon Hall in Worcester, and it was an excellent night. I only discovered her recently when I looked up the breathy and appealing singer of the theme tune to The Café and found she was coming to Worcester, so booked us in, having heard only Beyond the Sea and Heart-shaped Stone.
It was a good decision. I enjoyed it thoroughly, as did the OH, who also came away with an autographed CD and a contented smile!
What I can’t work out is how I managed not to have come across her before: this is her tenth album and many of the influences she lists are very much my musical history…
Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Carole King, Neil Young, Nick Drake, Beatles, Crosby Stills & Nash, Vashti Bunyan, Kate Bush….
Here’s a taster for you if you’ve also missed her. Lovely song; don’t miss the end of the video…
